Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned Saturday’s suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, branding the attack a “cowardly act” and calling on security agencies to intensify efforts against extremist insurgents in the region.

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the lives lost in the attack and extended condolences to the people and government of Borno State.

The assault is believed to have been carried out by remnants of the Boko Haram terrorist group, who have increasingly resorted to targeting civilians as a means of diversion and disruption, according to the presidency.

“This heinous act against innocent citizens underscores the desperation of those who have lost the capacity to engage our forces directly,” Tinubu said. “I urge our security services to remain relentless in pursuing the perpetrators and dismantling their networks.”

The President directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate assistance to survivors and those affected by the attack.

In a separate incident, Tinubu also expressed sympathy for the victims of a deadly explosion at a scrap metal facility in Kano State, which claimed five lives and injured several others. The blast occurred on Saturday morning.

He urged relevant regulatory agencies to investigate the cause of the explosion and reinforce workplace safety standards to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
