President Bola Tinubu has underscored the pivotal role of fathers in shaping Nigeria’s future, describing the home as the “first institution of leadership” and asserting that national strength begins with family leadership.
In a message marking Father’s Day on Sunday, posted to his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, @officialABAT, President Tinubu paid tribute to fathers in Nigeria and around the world. He highlighted their influence on society through the values they instil within their families.
“Our country is only as strong as the men who lead with integrity within their families,” Tinubu wrote. “To be a father is to carry the weight of responsibility with quiet strength. It is to sacrifice comfort so your children can dream, to model discipline, and to lead with love and firmness.”
The president emphasised that fatherhood is not limited to biology. It also encompasses those who mentor, guide, and protect the next generation, regardless of familial ties.
He described fathers as “our first teachers, silent defenders, and tireless nation-builders,” stating that the principles they uphold at home help define the moral fabric of the nation.
Reflecting on his personal journey as both a father and grandfather, Tinubu referred to fatherhood as the “most sacred” of all titles. He stressed the importance of leading with love, discipline, and responsibility in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.
“Your everyday labours shape the character of our country and the future of our children,” he said in closing. “Thank you to all Nigerian fathers, biological and symbolic. You are the strength of our nation.”
