The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Ms Yan Yuqing, has officially launched the “Window to China” Centre at the University of Port Harcourt, underscoring a renewed commitment to strengthening educational and cultural ties between China and Nigeria.

At the inauguration ceremony held yesterday, Ms Yuqing emphasized the strategic role of the Centre as a hub for cultural exchange, academic collaboration, and mutual understanding. She noted that the facility would offer students, researchers, and faculty members new opportunities in education, technology, language, and innovation.

“This Centre is not just a physical space,” she said, “but a gateway to learning, dialogue, and deeper engagement between our two countries.”

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Owunari Georgewill, hailed the initiative as both timely and visionary. He highlighted China’s increasing influence in global affairs and praised the partnership as a vital step in broadening the intellectual and cultural perspectives of the university community.

Professor Georgewill further noted that the Centre would encourage the exchange of ideas, promote bilateral academic relationships, and expose students to international best practices in research and development.

The event was attended by members of the university’s leadership, representatives of the Chinese Consulate, academic staff, students, and dignitaries from the diplomatic community.

The “Window to China” Centre is set to host exhibitions, language courses, academic seminars, and cultural programs aimed at celebrating and deepening the long-standing friendship between Nigeria and China.
