The Abia State branch of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent visit to the state’s Labour Party governor, describing it as a personal move that does not reflect the position of the party.
The visit to Governor Alex Otti, accompanied by public praise for his administration, has drawn sharp criticism from APC officials, who say it runs contrary to their established view of the state government’s performance.
Speaking in Umuahia, Sterling Urakpa, the acting APC publicity secretary in Abia, distanced the party from Kalu’s remarks. “The visit was not sanctioned by the party and does not represent our stance on governance in Abia,” Urakpa stated.
He accused Governor Otti’s administration of lacking transparency, citing concerns over undisclosed contract values and project costs. He also highlighted persistent internal conflicts within the state government as areas of concern.
Urakpa warned APC members against forming political alliances with the opposition under the guise of promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that such conduct would not be tolerated in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.
He further urged party executives in Senator Kalu’s constituency to remain vigilant and uphold the party’s integrity, asserting that any act of “political fraternisation” could compromise the APC’s unity and credibility.
