The Nigerian Air Force has launched a successful pre-emptive strike on a key terrorist stronghold in the Lake Chad region, eliminating multiple insurgents and dismantling logistics infrastructure believed to be part of a wider plot to attack civilian communities.
According to a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, the operation was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on Monday, following actionable intelligence.
The targeted area — Bukar Meram, located on the southern fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State — was reportedly used as a training and logistics hub by armed extremists.
“Surveillance revealed preparations for coordinated assaults on Marte and Monguno, prompting immediate airstrikes that neutralised several militants and destroyed vital supply infrastructure,” Ejodame said.
Destroyed in the strikes were vehicles, weapon caches, and temporary shelters used by the terrorists, effectively halting what was described as an “imminent threat” to the civilian population.
The operation is part of a broader military campaign to root out terrorist networks in Nigeria’s troubled northeast, where insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP have continued to wage deadly campaigns.
Ejodame emphasised that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to its constitutional mandate of defending national sovereignty and protecting civilians.
