The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s proposed overhaul of Nigeria’s forest security system, describing it as a significant step toward enhancing national safety and attracting foreign investment.
The traditional monarch made the remarks on Sunday during a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Speaking to journalists following the meeting, Oba Ogunwusi praised the President’s commitment to strengthening grassroots security infrastructure, particularly through the restructuring of the Forest Guard initiative.
“We are pleased with the proposed Forest Guard model and the efforts to expand police presence across forested areas in both the north and south,” the Ooni said. “Enhanced security lays a foundation for increased investor confidence and sustainable development.”
He also used the occasion to commend Tinubu’s broader governance agenda, highlighting positive feedback from his recent international engagements.
“I’ve just returned from Kazakhstan with encouraging reports. The President’s efforts are reshaping Nigeria’s global image, drawing interest from countries keen to collaborate with us,” he noted.
Oba Ogunwusi pointed to improvements in Nigeria’s economic outlook, particularly the stabilisation of foreign exchange policy, as evidence of the administration’s progress.
“For the first time in our recent history, there’s a unified exchange rate — a major signal to investors that Nigeria is open for business,” he said. “The international community is taking note.”
The Ooni further underscored the importance of traditional institutions in national development, urging fellow monarchs to partner with government and inspire the nation’s youth.
“Traditional leaders must lead by example, align with government efforts, and offer hope to younger generations,” he said. “This is yet another beacon of hope for Nigeria’s youth.”
