Mr Fidelis Mnyin, the Benue Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order has congratulated Council Chairmen and Councillors over their victory at the Appeals tribunal.
In a statement on Wednesday signed by Mnyim’s Media Aide, Mr Jacob Iormbagah in Makurdi, he said their victory marks the end of the legal battle.
He urged them to deliver on their campaign promises.
The commissioner commended the appeal panel for their sound and erudite judgments which saw the return of all the elected councils officials in the State.
He said the judgment have reaffirmed the commitment of the state judiciary to adhere to the rule of law at all times.
“These petitions are peculiar, given that 98 per cent of the petitioners are members of the APC.
“The crux of their ptitions is that they were nominated by the Agada faction of the APC to contest as candidates of the APC in the Benue State Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship elections.
“They were however not screened by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission to participate in the elections because the Benjamin Omale-led APC was and still is the only leadership recognised by the National Working Committee of the APC in Benue.
NAN reports that the appeal panel sitting in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) House in Abuja, upheld the elections of all 23 local government chairmen under the APC on Tuesday.
The panel overturned earlier decisions by the Local Government Election Petition Tribunals, which had nullified APC victories in nine local councils following the October 2024 elections conducted by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC). (NAN)
