The Emir of Kagara, Malam Ahmed Garba-Gunna, has commended security agencies for their efforts in restoring normalcy in Kagara and its environs in Rafi Local Government of Niger state.

He made the commendation when participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 18 from the National Institute for Security Studies visited him on Monday in Rafi, Niger.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the delegation, made up of senior security officers and policymakers, visited the emirate as part of a study tour on “Non-state Actors in Security Management” in Africa.

The Course is a key programme of the National Institute for Security Studies, aimed at boosting security officers’ and policymakers’ skills to tackle complex security issues.

Garba-Gunna, represented by Alhaji Mohammed Isah, Tafidan Kagara, expressed satisfaction with the improved security situation in the area.

He noted that prompt response of security agencies had curtailed the activities of bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements.

“We have witnessed a significant reduction in security threats in our communities due to the timely intervention of security forces and the strategic approach adopted by Gov. Umaru Bago,” he said.

The emir emphasised the importance of community participation in intelligence gathering and collaboration with security agencies to maintain the current peace and stability.

He commended the coordinated efforts of various security agencies and the proactive measures implemented by the state government to combat criminality across the State.

The Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining the fight against insecurity.

Usman, represented by Dr Mohammed Mohammed Makusidi, Permanent Secretary, General Services, highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the administration.

He said the initiative included strengthening local security outfits, improving intelligence sharing mechanisms, and implementing socio-economic programmes aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity.

“Niger government remained committed to ensuring safety and security, investing in infrastructure and community projects to discourage crime,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Rafiu Bolarinwa, Leader of the delegation, lauded the collaborative efforts between traditional institutions, government, and security forces in tackling security issues.

He noted that the lessons learned from Niger state’s approach to security management would inform their research and policy recommendations upon completion of their course.
