James Pindar, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Minister of FCT Volleyball Challenge 2025, said that talented players were discovered in three categories at the just concluded tournament in Abuja.

Pindar, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, said that the categories include Under 19, Under 21, and the senior team.

He said that each category targets different stages of player development in Nigeria.

According to him, the under-19 are the young players with potential for future development.

“The Under-21 players are the emerging talents transitioning to senior levels. The senior team is the experienced players showcasing top-notch skills.

“This categorisation aims to nurture volleyball talent across different age groups, providing opportunities for growth and development in the sport.

“Our objectives have been achieved, and new talents have been discovered. The next step would be to invite selected players to camp for further evaluation and training,” he said.

Pindar expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the tournament, stating that the new talents discovered are aimed at nurturing volleyball talents and providing growth opportunities.

Pindar thanked the seven-Up Bottling Company Limited, the President of Nigeria Volleyball, Musa Nimrod, members of the volleyball association, referees, Local Organising Committee, media, zonal coordinator, and other guests for their support.

NAN reports that 33 clubs comprising 32 men and 21 women FCT teams participated.

In the finals men’s category, the Super Spikers volleyball club emerged winners in the men’s team, while Karu United volleyball club came second, and the Defence Spikers volleyball team finished third.

NAN reports that the tournament is expected to have a lasting impact on volleyball development in the FCT, with many promising players expected to attain greater heights in the sport. (NAN)
