NiMet Predicts 3-day Sunshine, Thunderstorms From Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has predicted sunshine and thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday across Nigeria.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, envisaged sunny skies on Wednesday with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of southern Adamawa and Taraba States later in the day.

It stated that sunny skies with few patches of clouds are anticipated over the North Central region with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Kwara and Niger States.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kogi, Kwara and Plateau States.

“In the southern region, cloudy skies are expected with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

“In the afternoon and evening periods, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States,” it said.

NiMet anticipated sunny skies over the northern region on Thursday with chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms over parts of Taraba State.

It envisaged sunny skies with few clouds across the North Central region during the morning period.

“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Plateau and Nasarawa States.

” In the southern region, cloudy skies are anticipated with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Lagos States in the afternoon and evening hours,” it added.

The agency also predicted isolated thunderstorms on parts of Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Delta and Edo States same Thursday.

NiMet anticipated sunny skies on Friday over the northern region with prospects of thunderstorms in parts of southern Adamawa, Taraba and Kaduna States during the afternoon or evening period.

“Sunny skies with few clouds are expected over the North Central region with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger states.

“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Kwara, Kogi, and Niger states.

“In the southern region, cloudy skies are anticipated during the morning hours with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa and Delta states,” it said.

The agency also envisaged isolated thunderstorms over parts of Abia, Imo, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa States later in the day.

“Temperatures are high over most parts of the country, putting people at risk of heat stress. People should stay in well-ventilated and cool spaces.

”Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Get vaccinated against meningitis, practice good hygiene by washing hands regularly and avoid overcrowding in small spaces.

”Use a nose mask to reduce chances of infection and avoid close contact with those affected.

“Avoid peak sun hours of (12pm to 3pm) and protect yourselves from undue exposure to direct sunlight,” it further said.

The agency advised members of the public to take adequate precaution as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.

“Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from
NiMet for effective planning in their operations.

“Residents are advised to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet or visit our website
(www.nimet.gov.ng),” it said. (NAN)
