The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has quizzed former Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel over alleged N700 billion fraud.
Fundings showed that his detention followed a petition alleging his involvement in money laundering, fund diversion, and corruption.
The arrest comes after Emmanuel honored the EFCC’s invitation to respond to allegations made by an anti-corruption organisation.
News had reported that the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT), had petitioned the EFCC to investigate the alleged fraud sometime ago.
Investigations revealed disturbing findings, including the withdrawal of N31 billion in cash from a single account labeled “Office of the Governor,” with additional cash withdrawals occurring progressively between 2019 and 2023.
These transactions have raised significant concerns regarding potential misappropriation of state funds.
