Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has donated a cheque of N2 million to six winners of scientific innovation and research paper writing competition in the state.
Mohammed Auwal from Bursari and Idi Mohammed of Yobe State University emerged first in brilliant Innovations (A) and top research paper award (B) categories respectively.
Mohammed Mustapha of Geidam and Mohammed Bukar also of Yobe State University came second on categories A and B respectively, while Adamu Aliyu of Nangere and Harisu Shehu emerged third in both categories.
Buni, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana, presented the cheque at the ongoing 14th Conference and General Assembly Meeting of Nigerian Young Academy in Damaturu on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition was facilitated by the Biomedical Research Training Center (BioRTC), Yobe State University, Damaturu.
Speaking at the occasion, the governor assured the people that he would continue to provide funding to the centre to execute research projects and maintain its equipment to meet international standard.
In his remarks, the Director and Founder of BioRTC, Dr. Mahmoud Maina, said the awards were given based on earlier advertisement for applications tagged : “Yobe State Research and Innovation Challenge 2024,” which began in January and ended in May.
Maina, who is also the Special Adviser to Buni on Research Science and Innovation, said selection of winners followed detailed presentations and thorough review by the judges.
“ Winners were selected after receiving numerous submissions of high-calibre research papers, each paper underwent an extensive review to assess its eligibility, significance in the field, and the contribution of the authors,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor of the of institution, Prof. Mala Daura, noted that the centre was attracting researchers within and outside the country, considering it’s state-of-the-art equipment.(NAN)
