Mr Anthony Uga, the new Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Imo Command, says he will utilise the mass media to create greater awareness about road safety rules.
Uga made the promise in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Tuesday.
According to him, the command will intensify its public awareness campaign through more engagements with the conventional and social media channels.
“Every Tuesday morning, we engage Imo people on radio and sensitise them on the need to obey traffic rules, including avoiding infractions such as wrong parking.
“This is yielding the desired result and we will do more in close synergy with all stakeholders,“ he said.
Uga, who assumed office as the new State Sector Commander on August 8, affirmed his commitment to the discharge of his duties to the best of his abilities.
He advised motorists to always obey traffic rules, adding that the command’s tow truck operatives were always on red alert to remove and impound all wrongly parked vehicles, “without recourse to whose ox is gored”.
He expressed optimism that with the cooperation of Imo people, the command will attain new milestones.
He said that, in addition to checkmating infractions, the command, under his watch, would synergise with other security agencies in intelligence gathering to fight insecurity.
In a statement issued to NAN, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Chibunna Nwamgborogwu, described Uga as “a square peg in a square hole”.
Nwamgborogwu expressed the hope that Uga, who succeeded Mr Evaristus Ebeniro, would bring his wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of his duties in Imo.
“He holds a doctorate degree in History and International Relations from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
“He served as Corps Commander in charge of Transport, under the Corps’ Department of Technical Services, before his redeployment to Ogun, where he served from July 2023 to July, this year, he stated. (NAN)
