The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday inaugurated an ultramodern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) in Ilorin.
Dignitaries at the inauguration include Gov. AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq of Kwara and his wife, Amb. Olufolake AbdulRazaq.
Members of the State Executive Council, as well as some dignitaries from other states, were present at the occasion.
The Kwara Commissioner for Health, Mrs Amina El-Imam, while speaking to newsmen, stressed that the ultramodern ward was for everyone to access without having to “break their accounts”.
“The facility will take care of both men and women, young and the aged alike. The furniture is brand new and everything is comfortable
“All of these are to reduce hospital acquired infections and reduce the recuperation time of patients that will use the Amuda Aliko wards.
“There are 19 rooms in all, while the single rooms are very spacious and can accommodate patients and medical health workers comfortably.
“The double rooms are like a room and parlour. They meet all kinds of targets and needs with the facility provided in here,” she said.
According to the commissioner, the facility is not free, but affordable for all residents of the state.
“The government of Kwara will always carry along the least privileged ones in mind.
“At the same time, there is the need to carry out a higher level of care obtained at our primary health centres or our conventional secondary health centres.
“The facility can cater for all social economic strata without “breaking the pockets” and it will also help to reduce medical tourism,” she said. (NAN)
