The Plateau Government has commenced the expansion and renovation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA).
Gov. Caleb Mutfwang made the disclosure on Friday in Jos at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Batch C Stream II corps members.
Mutfwang, who was represented by his Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr Noel Nkup, assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to creating a supportive environment in terms of welfare and security.
“The state government is committed to creating a supportive environment in terms of welfare and security.
“We are actively working on renovations at the NYSC orientation to ensure that you have the resources to maximise your potential and creativity in alignment with the ideals of the NYSC and its core mandate,” he said.
The governor said that the NYSC orientation programme was designed to inculcate in them the spirit of discipline, self-reliance, and leadership skills expected for their future.
He further urged them to pay special attention to all orientation course content.
Mutfwang charged them to approach the orientation with seriousness and focus, as the lessons they learn would undoubtedly enhance their performance during their service and beyond.
According to him, the NYSC scheme played a crucial role in promoting national values such as patriotism, self-reliance, commitment to service, constructive engagement, equity, and justice among the youth in the last 50 years.
He assured the NYSC of the government’s support of providing an enabling environment for the youth to maximise their potentials in keeping with the ideals of the NYSC scheme.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Plateau, Mr Jonathan Yavala, commended Mutfwang for his visit to the permanent orientation camp, where he directed the immediate renovation and expansion of the orientation camp.
Yavala further commended the Plateau Government for providing an enabling environment for the scheme to thrive.
The state coordinator said that the orientation programme was to formally usher the corps members into the service year.
He said the orientation course was designed to equip the corps members adequately for the challenges during the service year and beyond.
He described the programme as highly regimented, comprising physical training, intellectual/motivational lectures, sporting activities, social activities, and the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED).
The coordinator implored the newly sworn-in corps members to actively participate in all camp activities while creating avenues for long-lasting relationships.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2,603 corps members were sworn in, consisting of 1,386 females and 1,217 males. (NAN)
