Lloyd Ekweremmadu, Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Enugu State, has charged the newly-inaugurated State Boxing Association Board to be proactive to produce results.
Ekweremadu gave the charge on Friday while inaugurating the 16-man board at the state Secretariat Complex, Enugu.
He described members of the board as individuals, who had contributed immensely to the growth of boxing and sports in general in the state.
“This is the type of people we need to run boxing in Enugu State and in the South East, ” he said.
The commissioner also described the board as purpose driven and urged them to be proactive so as to bring back the glory days of boxing in Enugu state.
“We have high expectations from this new board and I have no doubt that you will succeed.
“I urge you to commit more time to ensuring that boxing grows stronger and bigger in the state, ” he said.
Responding, the Chairman of the board, Cordelia Ogbu, promised that the board would live up to its expectations by turning around the fortunes of boxing in the state.
Ogbu said that the board would place priority on grassroots boxing competitions to fish out talents that abound in the state.
“Working with these able men and women, I have no doubt that we are going to succeed in our assignment, ” she said.
Ebubechukwu Nwobodo, Vice chairman of the board, pledged the readiness of the members to give their best to ensuring that boxing became the number one sports in the state.
Those inaugurated include Cordelia Ogbu (Chairman), Ebubechukwu Nwobodo (Vice Chairman), Somuadina Ani (Secretary), Uchenna Okolie (patron), Tony Anyichie (Southeast boxing Ambassador), and Chibueze Nwoye (member).
Others are: Emeka Okeke (member), Charles Ike (member), Ikechukwu Okoronkwo (member), Solomon Orji (member), Jessy Ikediashi (member), Kyrian Igwe (security officer), Osondu Nwude (media officer), Benson Ezugwu (media officer) and Ude Blaise (Technical Director). (NAN)
