The Sudanese Government believes that regaining control of Aj Jazira state from the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF), will pave the way for lasting peace in Sudan.
Mr Ahmed Taboul, Charge d’ Affaires of Sudan Embassy in Nigeria, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to him, this development comes after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) successfully recaptured the strategic state.
NAN recalls that the conflict between the SAF and RSF had been ongoing, with the RSF leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, facing US sanctions for alleged genocide.
He noted that the successful recapture of the Aj Jazirah state by SAF had marked new turn in Sudan since the breakout of the war on April 15, 2023.
Taboul said, “Aj Jazira is not just strategic, it is also the second largest after Khartoum.
“We consider it a junction connecting highways of national roads linking most Sudan cites.
“Aj Jazira is one of the leading states economically, politically and socially that is closely located next to Khartoum, the capital of Sudan with not less than 200 kilometres.
“The successful recapture of the state will give the SAF a good chance to advance and further take control of other parts of Sudan, such as Western part of Sudan and ensure sustainable peace.
“The Southern part of Aj Jazira and other states that were under control of the rebels had been retaken by the national forces.
“Now, things are completely clear and under the full control of the Sudanese government through the success of the SAF retaking many villages and other parts of Sudan.”
He explained the position of the RSF to be in bad situation as at the time of this report, adding “they do not have any command and any central control as they used to.”
This, according to the envoy, politically and diplomatically is good news for the Sudanese people.
He said Head of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan would pay a working visit to four countries namely, Guinea Bisau, Cameroun, Mali and Senegal, any time soon.
“The situation in Sudan is changing and we are quite sure that all the pictures about the war will change for good.
“Hopefully, millions of displaced persons and those who left Sudan to neighbouring countries will regain their peace, and stability across the cities in Sudan,” he said. (NAN)
