A member of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mr Abiodun Tobun, says more than 500 residents of Epe got free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms in 2024.
Tobun, representing Epe Constituency I, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Epe on Monday.
He said that more than half of the beneficiaries passed the exam and had successfully gained admission into various universities across the country.
“I did not stop at providing free JAMB forms for the beneficiaries; I also organised extra coaching classes to prepare them for the examination.
“These classes focused on core subjects, such as Mathematics and English, aside others,” he said.
Tobun said that the tutors engaged in coaching the beneficiaries were given monthly stipends.
“Most of the students performed well in the JAMB examination and secured admission into various universities across Nigeria,” he stated.
The lawmaker said that the primary criterion for selecting beneficiaries was their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results.
“Any candidate who passed his/her WAEC examination is eligible for the free JAMB form,” he said.
Tobun said that there were plans to increase the number of beneficiaries in 2025 to address the economic challenges faced by many families.
“I have sponsored 30 indigenes from their first year to final year in higher institutions.
“I have also facilitated employment opportunities for some of the graduates who had completed their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
“Many are now employed in various government and private establishments,” he said.
Tobun reiterated his commitment to ensuring that his constituents continued to benefit from impactful governance.
“I will continue to do my best to provide meaningful support and ensure that my constituents enjoyed the dividends of democracy,” he said. (NAN)
