Director-General of Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Joseph Tegbe, has arrived in China, as part of commitments to strengthening the bilateral trade between the two countries.

Tegbe, in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, described the business trip as a significant step to furthering the comprehensive strategic partnership between Nigeria and China.

He said that the initiative was important to deepen the economic cooperation and foster sustainable development between both countries.

This, according to the director-general, who was warmly received by representatives of the Chinese Business Community and officials from the Nigerian embassy in China, is targetted at building a high-level China-Nigeria community with a shared future.

“As Nigeria seeks to become a net exporter to China in the next five years, the partnership is poised to play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

“The partnership provides a platform for the actualisation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which involves exploring more development paths with China as a major development partner,” Tegbe said.

NAN reports that during the visit, Tegbe is expected to engage with top Chinese government officials and participate in a series of strategic meetings aimed at sealing agreements that will bolster the Nigerian economy in some key sectors.

These sectors include: agriculture, where efforts will focus on enhancing agricultural productivity and food security, and alternative energy which involves developing renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Other areas are healthcare, with an emphasis on improving access to quality healthcare services and medical infrastructure, and mining which seeks to harness Nigeria’s mineral resources to drive economic growth.

The engagement will also cover education which will strengthen educational institutions and promote cultural exchange, and technology, with focus on fostering innovation and technological advancement in Nigeria.

NAN reports that as Tegbe leads the initiative to drive Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation through targetted Chinese investments, he is also expected to support China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). (NAN)
