The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo Sector Command, has deployed 27 patrol vehicles across the state to ensure smooth traffic management during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Deputy Corps Commander Bayode Olugbesan, of the command, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Olugbesan said the corps also deployed more ambulances and tow trucks in strategic locations.
He added that the corps had established a synergy with the police, NSCDC and other stakeholders in safety and traffic management for hitch-free celebrations.
“Early from September, we have improved our public enlightenment programmes at motor parks and other public gatherings.
“We have also embarked on town hall meetings and advocacy visits to all stakeholders in road management for robust preparation.
“The theme of the 2024 Ember months campaign: “Speak Out, Road Crashes Kill More Passengers than the Drivers’, aimed at sensitising the public on the consequences of being complacent when the driver is driving recklessly.
“We want the passengers to take responsibility and be able to tell the driver to shun speeding, dangerous overtaking and reckless driving,” he said.
Olugbesan urged Nigerians to cooperate with the corps, saying more officers and patrol vehicles will be seen at black spots and traffic congestion-prone areas during the festive period.
He promised the corps would ensure effective monitoring of traffic situations during and after the celebrations. (NAN)
