Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed no fewer than 2,200 personnel and 17 patrol vehicles for yuletide operations in Enugu State.
The Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Dr Elijah Willie, disclosed this at a news briefing in Enugu on Monday.
Willie said that the 2,200 personnel included officers and men, both on plain-clothes and uniform, adding that they had been deployed to every nook and cranny of the state.
He assured residents of the state of their safety and security, in line with the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“Our aim is to create a safe environment for all to celebrate the season without fear.
“As part of our operations, our security personnel will be positioned at major highways, worship centres, recreation spots and other strategic locations.
“Patrols will be intensified across urban and rural areas to promptly detect and respond to any security threat.
“Intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance will be prioritised to neutralise criminal elements, while special attention will be given to markets, motor parks and other crowded areas,” he said.
Willie said that the command’s emergency response teams would be on standby to ensure swift action in case of any incident.
He expressed appreciation to Gov. Peter Mbah for his unwavering support and visionary leadership, which, he said, had greatly enhanced NSCDC’s operations in the state.
He also commend the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi, for his guidance and the resources he had provided to ensure the command’s effectiveness in securing the state.
While urging residents of the state to celebrate responsibly and remain vigilant, the commandant said that they must report any suspicious activity to the nearest NSCDC office.
“Security is a shared responsibility and together, we can maintain peace and safety across the state.
“On behalf of the entire Enugu State command of NSCDC, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
“Thank you for your trust and cooperation, as we work to make this festive season safe for everyone,” he said. (NAN)
