Nigerian model, Samuel Nwajagu, has received an outpouring of tributes from fans over his historic feat as the first African to win the prestigious Mister International title.
The 16th Mister International pageant took place during the weekend at the Island Hall, Fashion Island, in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 23-year-old software engineer competed against 47 contestants from around the world to win the highly coveted title and he was crowned by Kim Goodburn of Thailand, the outgoing titleholder.
In his appreciation speech, Nwajagu said: “ I feel very great and I am very happy for the support each and every one of you gave me throughout this journey.
“My message is a message of hope and resilience, and I want to encourage everyone that you are capable of making a difference regardless of where you come from no matter where you are.
“All great things starts from small beginnings don’t be afraid to take that bold step because where dreams meet determination is where greatness follows,”he said.
The organisers of the pageant thereafter congratulated him on their Instagram page, new@officialmisterinternational: “Here he is, your new Mister International 2024, Nwajagu Chinemerem Samuel from Nigeria!
“A well-deserved victory for a truly remarkable gentleman. Congratulations!”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the historic victory has continued to received accolades from Nigeria’s across the globe, with many taking to their social media page to congratulate Nwajagu.
Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) celebrated him with a post on her Twitter page.
She wrote: “Hearty congratulations to Nwajagu Samuel Chinemerem who has become the first African to win the Mister International title.
“The 23-year-old software engineer competed against over 40 contestants from around the world to win the crown.”

NAN reports that Nwajagu’s milestone is a further testament Nigeria’s growing representation in global pageantry, as Chidinma Adetshina recently made history as the first runner-up at 2024 Miss Universe pageant.
In October, Favour Ogbuokiri made history by emerging the second runner-up at the prestigious Mister Global competition, also in Bangkok, Thailand. (NAN)
