Rep. Ahmed Satomi (APC-Borno), on Monday distributed three trailers of fertilisers free-of-charge to his constituents with an appeal to them to pray for leaders.
Flagging-off the exercise in Jere, Satomi said that the responsibility of providing succor to the citizenry to ameliorate the current hardship should not be left to President Ahmed Tinubu alone.
The lawmaker, who observed that Tinubu had been doing his part in putting some measures in place, however, said that his action needed some little patience to start yielding results.
He pleaded for understanding and steady prayers from all Nigerians for the president and other leaders to succeed in their good intentions for Nigeria.
Satomi, who represents Jere federal constituency, stressed the need for renewed commitment to good governance and patriotism by both leaders and followers.
“What is needed from us, particularly elected and appointed officials including well to do individuals in the community, is to play our role in complementing the efforts of government in our own ways to ameliorate the current hardship.
“For instance, as a lawmaker now in recess, I am using the opportunity to educate my people on the need for peace at this critical time.
“I also present to you this free fertilisers for genuine farmers in our community to boost their yield. Support in form of food items from me is also on the way.
“This is not my first time of doing this, I will continue to do it as your representative and as a philanthropist,” Satomi assured.
He lauded the commitment of Gov. Babagana Zulum administration in Borno for its interventions in people oriented projects in Jere constituency, and urged for its sustenance to give the citizens a sense of belonging.
A cross section of beneficiaries who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) lauded the lawmaker for the gesture and urged other lawmakers to emulate him.
They described the lawmaker as a large-scale farmer who knew the value of agriculture, saying that they were not surprise about his sustained support to agriculture which matters most to the communities.
“We are grateful to him and urge him to continue with the good work,” Ibrahim Abubakar, a beneficiary advised. (NAN)
