Gov Dikko Radda of Katsina State, on Monday, inaugurated the construction of three road projects worth more than N20 billion in Funtua Local Government Area of the state.

Flagging-off the road construction, Radda said one of the projects was the dualisation of a 5.9-kilometre Sokoto road at the cost of N12.8 billion.

He said the Sokoto road project would be handled by the Mother Cat Construction Company Limited, with a completion period of 18 months.

He added that the 3.9-kilometre Katsina-Funtua dual carriage would gulp N8 billion, with 12 months completion period.

“The rehabilitation and upgrade of the 1.2-kilometre Tsohuwar Kasuwa road project, which will consume more than N637 million, will be completed within six months.

“These projects mark the beginning of the transformation journey that will enhance the infrastructure and economic vibrancy of our communities.

“The road projects have solar powered streetlights, because I have the conviction that infrastructure is the backbone of progress.

“Today, we’re here to lay a foundation for an urban renewal development that will not only improve the connectivity, but facilitate trades and enhance ease of doing business,” the governor said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor has also launched the construction of a 52-kilometre Kunduru-Radda-TsakasaGanuwa road, in Charanchi and Kankia local government areas.

He was also expected to commission the dualised Kofar Soro-Kofar Guga road project which had been completed.

Radda said it was not only about road building, but the government was also committed to creating an environment that would foster economic growth and development.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the construction company, Mr Jack Najal commended the government and the people of the state for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state.

Najal promised to deliver a quality work, and to complete the project within the agreed period, through the support of the government and people of the area.

In his remarks, Alhaji Sambo Idris-Sambo, the Sarkin Maskan Katsina and District Head of Funtua, said the project would certainly propel development of the area.

He said Funtua had been yearning for such development for many years and gave glory to God that the road project had finally been inaugurated.

Idris-Sambo assured the state government and the contactor of necessary support to ensure a smooth and successful project. (NAN)
