The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has expressed dissatisfaction over the exclusion of the Medical and Dental Lecturers from the selection of the Vice-Chancellor position of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka.
The National President of the Association, Prof Muhammad Muhammad, made the disclosure during a news conference on Tuesday in Kano.
The association argues that the criteria used in the recent advert unfairly excluded the Medical and Dental Lecturers, undermining their critical role in academic and administrative leadership.
The Associations Key Concerns was that Medical and Dental education was vital to producing competent healthcare professionals.
“Exclusion sends a message that Medical and Dental Lecturers’ contributions were undervalued.
“This move may lead to breakdown in academic collaboration, reduced morale, and affected quality of education.
“The exclusion of Medical and Dental Lecturers is unjust and undermines their critical role. We urge swift resolution to maintain UNIZIK’s status as a center of excellence,” he said.
“We call on the Governing Council of UNIZIK to withdraw the earlier advert, ensure representation of all academic disciplines, particularly Medical and Dental Lecturers and maintain the university’s status as a center of excellence in Medical and Dental education.
“If left unresolved, the situation may degenerate into a national issue, affecting academic excellence and leadership in Nigerian universities.
“The MDCAN leadership and members remain committed to supporting academic excellence and leadership, fully backing the steps taken by UNIZIK members to address this issue,” he said.(NAN)
