A Mapo Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan on Tuesday remanded a burglar, 24-year-old Farook Adeleye, over an alleged theft of N15,000.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Latunji, ordered Adeleye to be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre after he had pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adeleye was accused of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, malicious damage and stealing.
The defendant was however unable to perfect the bail condition —- a N100,000 bail sum with two reliable sureties —- granted him.
Latunji subsequently adjourned the matter until Dec. 19 for commencement of trial.
Earlier, the prosecution, Insp. Oluseye Akinola, had told the court that the defendant was arrested by police operatives on Sunday at Oja-oba area of Ibadan in Oyo State.
Akinola added that Adeleye maliciously damaged the shop of one Azeez Abiodun and stole a cash sum of N15,000 from it.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections 42, 84 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 vol. ii Law of Oyo State 2000.(NAN)
