First Lady, Sen Oluremi Tinubu, has called for a collective effort to prevent and protect the girl-child from sexual exploitation and abuse.
Mrs Tinubu, in her message on Monday, commemorating the UN World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence, emphasised the gravity of child abuse and its detrimental effects on a child’s potential.
She stressed that child abuse, including sexual exploitation, child labor, rape, trafficking, and violence, were grave crimes that defied humanity.
Mrs Tinubu advised everyone to be vigilant and report any incidents of child abuse to the authorities.
The First Lady noted that the creation of the UN Day was not just a symbolic gesture but a call to action, promising children everywhere that their rights and well-being would be safeguarded.
She emphasised that any abuse against a child was an abuse against humanity’s core values.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the UN World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence is celebrated annually on November 18.
