The 18 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Bida, Niger State, has awarded a scholarship to Miss Binta Yahaya, a 100-level indigent student of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.
Brig.-Gen. Taye Ahmed, Commander of the Brigade, presented a cheque of N500,000 to Yahaya on Wednesday in Minna, stating that the initiative aimed to foster community ties and strengthen civil-military relations.
He said the scholarship was part of the Chief of Army Staff’s special scheme, which supported deserving students.
Ahmed said Yahaya was selected from among four students from Kontagora, Rafi, Shiroro, and Bida, the areas of operation of the brigade.
Responding, Yahaya expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army, noting that the scholarship would greatly alleviate her family’s financial burden.
In a related development, the Brigade opened a condolence register in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Toareed Lagbaja, who passed away on November 6.
The brigade commander described Lagbaja as a “selfless, committed, and dedicated officer” whose legacies will be remembered in the army’s history.(NAN)
