The Bafarawa Foundation said it has so far donated over N1billion to some indigents and flood victims across Nigeria.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)reports that the foundation was floated by the former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, to assist the less-privileged Nigerians.
Its Director-General, Dr Suleiman Shu’aibu-Shinkafi, disclosed this on Tuesday in Kaduna during the donation of N6million to the 119 freed endbadgovernance protesters from Kaduna and Kano States.
He stated that out of the amount, N1billion was given out for disbursement to the indigents in Sokoto State to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.
In the same vein, the director-general said that N50million was doled out to the victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguti, Borno.
NAN also reports that 45 of the freed youths were from Kaduna State while 76 were from Kano State.
NAN however reports that the gesture would be presented to the Kano youths in the next few days as exolained by Shu’aibu-Shinkafi.
He said that the gesture was extended to the youths to alleviate their suffering following their incarceration.
Shu’aibu-Shinkafi said,”This widow’s mite will enable them to continue with their education while others may start up petty businesses.
“It is not he is in support of what they were alleged to have done but to show his sympathy to them.
“The former Governor of Sokoto State urges the youths to be good citizens and always seek redress in legal and peaceful means.”
Also speaking, a member of the foundation, Malam Abdulrahman Baffa-Yola said that each of the youths was given N50,000 under the largesse.
While acknowledging that peaceful protests were common globally, he,however, said,”The endbadgovernance protests were hijacked by hoodlums.
“Youths should be law abiding and resolve grievances amiably and not violently.”
Baffa-Yola called on the beneficiaries to use the money for the purpose it was meant for.
Mohammed Abubakar and Abubakar Umar, who responded on behalf of their colleagues commended Bafarawa for the invaluable gesture.
The duo promised to use the seed funds judiciously, promising to be good citizens while pursuing education at all levels. (NAN)
