An Area Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced one Peter Alex to six months in prison
for stealing iron rods valued at N54,000.
The Judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced Alex after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Bokkos, however, gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thlawur, told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo Jos
Police Station Division on Aug. 9 by one Mr John Bot.
He said Bot complained that Alex came to his house and stole his iron rods valued at N54,00, and that he had
confessed stealing the rods during police investigation.
The prosecutor added that the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
In a related development, the judge had also sentenced one Nanzing Solomon to six months in prison for stealing
N30,000, some clothes and an ATM card.
Bokkos sentenced the convict after he had also pleaded guilty to the offence.
He, however, gave Solomon an option of N20,000 fine and asked him to pay N100,000 compensation to
the complainant.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thlawur had earlier told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo Jos Police
Station on Aug. 15 by Emmanuel Choji.
He said Choji had complained that Solomon trespassed into his house and stole some of his clothes, an ATM card
and cash sum of N30,000.
The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation, Solomon confessed to have committed the offence.
He explained that the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria. (NAN)
