The Yobe Government has vowed to tackle the incessant herders-farmers clashes in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Damaturu, after a security council meeting.
Ahmed said the meeting, chaired by Deputy Governor Idi Gubana, was convened to address the rising tension between herders and farmers in the state.
“Within the period under review, most local government areas in Yobe State, which are predominantly farming communities, have experienced these clashes. In some cases, it has led to loss of life,” he said.
The commissioner added that the state government had directed local government chairmen to strengthen community partnerships with security agencies and other stakeholders to mitigate the clashes.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that to further enhance security operations in Yobe, the Deputy Governor presented motorcycles to vigilante groups and the Agro-Rangers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. (NAN)
