The commissioner of police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu has warned scavengers, popularly known as “Baban Bola, who go about stealing and removing government facilities and installations to vacate the FCT or face director consequences.
CP Disu said since his resumption as the commissioner of police in the federal capital, he has received several reports about the activities of these scavengers and the he has decided to handle the issues.
While touring the panteker sites in Gwarinpa, Mpape and Dawaki, the police commissioner said he decided to personally visit these places to have first hand information.
He expressed sadness with the panteker site in Mpape, where over 50 dogs were let loose when the police team arrived there and noted that such act showed that the people in that Panteker are violent people and the police will have to look into that.
The CP also stated that the Panteker markets all over are know for receiving stolen goods and other dubious businesses, and warned that such will not be tolerated in the FCT.
He however, noted that the police would consult the leaders of these panteker markets and sensitize them on the need to report any suspicious movement or business.
Recall that just last May, 2024, the FCP police paraded 152 scavengers for allegedly engaging in various kinds of theft of household items and government property.
The police said they were arrested in a coordinated raid on some black spots in Jabi, Karu, Mabushi, Jabi Daki-Biyu, among other criminal hideouts, in Abuja.
