Jigawa state government has approved N60 million for the purchase of food items to victims of the Majia tanker explosion in Taura local government area of the state.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Sagir Musa, the state Commissioner for Information, on Wednesday in Dutse.
Musa said that the decision was taken during the Council meeting in Dutse.
He said that the council also resolved that there was the need to urgently support the victims of the tanker explosion which has claimed more than 180 lives.
“The sum is for the procurement of foods items such as 25kg of bags of rice, 10kg of millet, 10kg maize and a carton of spaghetti for each of the 210 families of the affected people.
“Similarly, the families’ victims will also be supported with the sum of N200,000 only, in addition to all medical expenses to be settled by the State Government,” he said.
Musa said that the council also commended the Federal Government, 35 states governments and the numerous individuals and organisations that supported the state.
“The council, however, acknowledged the receipt of N1,448,900.000, as support extended to the victims and families of the deceased by various individuals and organizations.”(NAN)
