President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to provide basic infrastructure in all the districts in Abuja.
FCT Minister Mr Nyesom Wike stated this on Wednesday in Abuja, at the inauguration of the construction of a 3.2-kilometre dual carriageway from Ahmadu Bello Way to Mabushi District.
The 3.2-kilometre road project involves the construction of other road networks within the Mabushi District.
Wike added that the President had insisted that the infrastructure be provided before new districts would be created.
“Let me say clearly today, that we will not rest until all the districts are connected with good roads. This is very very important because the one thing that makes a city serene is a good road network.
“For a city like Abuja, we have no choice but to continue to provide basic infrastructure such as a good road network to make it a befitting city,” he said.
According to him, the road network will promote economic activities in the district and reduce the suffering of residents trying to move around the city.
The minister explained that the project was approved by the Federal Executive Council and assured the contractor that adequate budgetary provisions had been made to facilitate the completion of the project by May 2025.
He further said that no project awarded under the Tinubu-led government would last beyond the administration.
“I will make sure that we finish every project we’ve awarded. We are not going to leave any abandoned project for anybody. No!
“There will be no variation or augmentation. We will pay the contractor as at when due,” Wike said.
Earlier, Mr Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, said that the project would be executed by CGC Nig. Ltd. wishing seven months.
Ahmad said the 3.2-kilometre road project includes other road networks and a dual carriageway from Ahmadu Bello Way to Mabushi District.
“This and a couple of other road networks within Mabushi District is aimed at opening up the district’s infrastructure for rapid development, along with other adjourning districts of Katampe, Jahi and Kado Districts,” he said. (NAN)
