A 31-year-old man, Ekene Olewike, on Monday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a 55-inch smart LG television, valued at N400,0000.
The defendant is standing trial before Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni, on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence, stealing and causing breach of peace, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 15 at Ayobo area of Lagos.
Uche said that the defendant obtained a 55-inch smart LG television worth N400,000 from one Mr Emmanuel Ugochukwu, under the pretext of repairing it and returning same.
He said that the defendant didn’t return the television until he was arrested by the police.
The prosecutor also said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace.
The offences, according to him, contravened the provisions of Sections 168, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Nov. 22 for mention. (NAN)
