The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paid over N3 billion as insurance benefits to 1,334 personnel from 2021 till date.
This was revealed by the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, during a meeting with senior officers of the Corps on Friday in Abuja.
Audi said that the benefits was part of the Corps’ commitment towards the welfare of staff through the Group Personnel Accident (GPA), Burial Benefits and Group Life Claims insurance schemes.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a breakdown of data made available by the Corps stated that from the 1,334; 707 personnel were paid under the Group Life Insurance.
“Next-of-kin to 350 deceased personnel have been paid and 277 officers and men received their benefits for accidents”.
The CG, however, said that over N962 million was recently approved for payment to 150 beneficiaries in the Corps.
He said that the 150 beneficiaries were part of the 1,334 personnel who had benefited from the three insurance scheme.
NAN reports that from the 150 beneficiaries, the next-of-kin to six deceased officers were presented cheques ranging from N23m to N7m.
Audi said that the payments was a testament that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to the welfare of staff.
“This is in fulfillment to one of the promises made by the President on staff welfare and I pray that the families of the deceased find succour for their losses,” he said.(NAN)
