Obey traffic rules, avoid speeding- Association tells drivers

Ilorin, Oct. 10, 2024 (NAN) The Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA), Kwara Chapter, on Thursday cautioned drivers to obey traffic rules and avoid speeding to prevent accidents in the state.
The state Chairperson, ROSOWA, Mrs Iboro Sokunbi, made this known during the sensitisation of drivers at Maraba Motor Park, Ilorin in Kwara.
According to Sokunbi, nobody is invisible and so accidents can be avoided by drivers who should pay attention to all road users and passers-by.
“Drivers should please stop acting like superman while driving, like speeding eating, drinking and even mothers should stop nursing babies while driving.
“If you see under-aged drivers on the road, try and correct them and report to appropriate authorities to avoid problems or accidents which may eventually affect the public.
“Drivers need to always remember that their families are waiting for them at home, so they should abide by road rules while driving,” she said.
Also, Mr Muftau Irekeola, Kwara Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said that failure to abide by road instructions had resulted to many fatal accidents, and loss of lives and properties.
According to Irekeola, drivers should reduce their speed, especially when travelling because this life for each person is only one, it does not have a duplicate.
“We don’t want people to die in accidents anymore, if at all there is an accident.
“This can be avoided by the drivers, if they reduce their speed, pay attention to road signs and concentrate while driving,” he said.
Similarly, Alhaji Isiaka Alowo-Aleyan, the Chairman of Road Transport Employers Association (RTEAN), Maraba Motor Park, Ilorin, said that drivers were more enlightened and had stopped speeding.
Alowo-Aleyan, represented by his secretary, Alhaji Olayinka Mogaji, however, thanked the organisers of the program and promised to relay the message to other drivers.
