A total of 208,209 indigent, poor and Persons With Disabilities (PWD), benefited from the Delta Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (Delta-CARES) empowerment programme since inception in Delta.
Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, stated this at the inauguration of the fourth tranche of the implementation of the programme on Tuesday in Asaba.
He said that it was a testament to his administration’s determination to build a state where every citizen has a sense of belonging.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme was formerly called “Delta Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus.
“It gives me great pleasure to stand before you today as we mark yet another significant milestone in our commitment to the economic empowerment and welfare of our people.
“This is not just a continuation of this initiative, but also a testament to our administration’s determination to build a state where every citizen has a sense of belonging.
“It is gratifying to note that the Delta CARES Programme has touched lives, provided critical support to households and small businesses.,“he said.
He said that the fourth phase of the implementation represented more than just another stage in the programme.
The governor said that the programme was designed to create opportunity for the people of the state irrespective of culture, tribe, language or political affiliation.
According to the governor, the programme is aimed at deepening his administration’s desire to meet the component of inclusiveness of “Opportunities for All” as inscribed in the MORE Agenda.
“We seek to create avenues for every Delta citizen, regardless of their background or political affiliation, to access opportunities that will expand their enterprises, create wealth and improve their living conditions.
“This initiative reflects our strong conviction that prosperity should be shared, and that every citizen deserves a fair chance at achieving their potential,“he said.
He congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to make the most of the support received.
Earlier, Mr Sonny Ekedayen, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chairman, State CARES Steering Committee, said that 97,365 persons benefited from the fourth circle of D-CARES across six delivery platforms with cash grants and starter packs.
According to him, 110,844 benefited from the previous circles and 97,365 persons benefited today which brings the total from inception of the programme to 208,209 beneficiaries.
He thanked the governor for the support and charged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence and the support given to them by investing wisely.
In a goodwill message, the member representing Oshimili South in the State House of Assembly, Bridget Anyafulu, thanked Gov. Oborevwori for keeping faith and enhancing the D-CARES programme and touching lives.
The State Coordinator of D-CARES, Dr Patience Ogbewe, lauded the state government for taken ownership of the programme and further taken it to a greater height.
She tasked the beneficiaries on the need to effectively utilise the funds and starter packs to grow their businesses and sustain their families..(NAN)
