The Borno Government has reassured its commitment toward achieving the implementation of
2025 budget to addressing the lingering impacts of insurgency and climate change.
Alhaji Bukar Tijjani, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), said shortly before a news conference on the budget breakdown on Monday in Maiduguri.
The SSG said the budget 2025 would focus on resettlement, security, infrastructure, and economic recovery, adding that it reflected a shared vision for sustainable development and rebuilding efforts.
Tijjani said the 2025 budget was structured around four key pillars: resettlement, security, infrastructure, and economic development.
The SSG said that the Zulum administration had remained committed to reintegrating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and returning refugees from Chad and Cameroon Republics.
He announced that the 21,000 returnees from Chad who voluntarily requested to return have already been reintegrated.
The SSG also said the administration had done a lot in support of the reintegration of 200,000 repentant insurgents under the Operation Safe Corridor framework in collaboration with the Federal Government and security agencies.
“The Governor has gone beyond the normal responsibilities of a state government by directly supporting security agencies, the Civilian JTF, and other community policing initiatives,” Tijjani said.
He said the 2025 budget prioritised education, particularly in addressing the problem of dropout, vocational training and entrepreneurship programmes to equip youth with skills for them to be self-reliance.
The SSG also said that the infrastructure development remained a major focus with efforts to restore electricity to local government areas that have power supply challenges due insurgency.
“There are 22 local governments in Nigeria without electricity, and some of them are in Borno. His Excellency is determined to extend electricity to these areas, starting with towns in the eastern and northern parts of the state,” he said.
Tijjani assured that workers’ salaries, pensions, and allowances would continue to be paid promptly, as part of the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of civil servants and retirees.
He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to fully implement the budget to logical conclusion, ensuring every sector’s contribution to the state’s recovery and development.(NAN)
