Two teenagers, Usman Yusuf and Rabiu Sani, were on Wednesday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of iron bars worth N650,000.
Yusuf and Sani both 18, whose addresses were not provided, are being charged with conspiracy and stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Baba, told the court that the defendants committed the offences at about 2.00p.m on Jan. 27 at Makera Kakuri, Kaduna metropolis.
Baba said that the defendants conspired with two others now at large, and stole angle iron bars worth N650,000.
The prosecutor further said that the offences contravened Sections 57 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 217 prescribes three years jail term for anyone found guilty.
The Magistrate, Hajara Dauda, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 each, with two sureties in like sum.
Dauda said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, and should show evidence of two years tax payment.
She further said that the addresses of the sureties must be verified by the court, and adjourned the case until March 27 for hearing.(NAN)
