Yahaya Abubakar, 35, has died from injuries sustained when residents of Zaranda-Gari, a community in Toro local government area of Bauchi State, have blocked the ever-busy Jos-Bauchi expressway following the arrest of a notorious illegal charcoal dealer by operatives of the Nigerian Hunters Forestry and Security Service.
News gathered that Abubakar died despite being rushed to a hospital in the community.
Similarly, Hussaini Yunusa, 20 and Yayangida Hussaini, 16, sustained various degrees of injuries. They are currently responding to medical treatment at Zaranda-Gari Primary Health Care Centre.
Spokesperson of Bauchi Police Commend, SP Ahmed Wakil who confirmed the incident said irate residents blocked the Jos-Bauchi road to express dissatisfaction with the arrest of the charcoal dealer, causing traffic gridlock along the road.
He explained that victims sustained injuries following a sporadic shutting by operatives of the quasi security outfits in an attempt to ensure arrest of the charcoal dealer.
Wakil said police personnel have been mobilised to the scene to maintain law and order while investigation into the matter continues.
